Musica Canora perform secular, medieval music from the gothic and renaissance period (13th – 17th century). The band was founded in 1995 and their music has made them one of the most sought after medieval performers in Central Europe. Initially the band performed renaissance music on replica musical instruments such as lutes, recorders and shawms augmented with traditional vocals arrangements.

In more recent times the band have extended their repertoire to gothic music, a more dynamic sound incorporating traditional dances. Instruments for this music genre include bagpipes (of various tunings and design), various shawms, whistles and pipes, the Gittern (string instrument), medieval drums also known as davuls or tapans, and more acoustically distinct percussions. These instruments give the band a coarser energetic appeal which has proved very popular.

Alternatively, but just as popular, the gentle tones from the renaissance program provide an ideal texture for indoor events such as ceremonial openings and corporate proceedings etc. still in place and equally popular with our customers. Our music is complemented with authentic period costumes and accessories.
